I’ve been golfing in Southern California since I was 12 years old. That doesn’t mean I’m exceptionally good, that just means I’m experienced (I’m about an 11 handicap). I’m convinced that we have some of the best courses right here in and around the Conejo Valley.

I’ve rated each of our courses based on my opinion of their difficulty and likeability on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the hardest and most likeable.

Listed from least likeable to most likeable:

Lindero Country Club, Agoura Hills (map)

Difficulty 3 | Likeability 5

This is a 9 hole pitch and putt course with one par 4.  You can typically get out on a moments notice.  Great place to practice your approach shots and short game.  Nice driving range too.

Westlake Golf Course, Westlake Village (map)

Difficulty 4 | Likeability 5.5

This is an easy course that’s more like an executive course than a full length golf course.  It’s par 67 and there’s some water you have to deal with.  Good course if you want to shoot a low score and feel really good about your golf game!

Camarillo Springs, Camarillo (map)

Difficulty 5.5 | Likeability 5.5

On the lower end of the spectrum for our regulation courses.  Fairly easy in comparison to the rest of them.  Not bad, just nothing spectacular.  It’s a pretty course with nice views of the mountains. I recommend it if you’re looking for a fun round without a lot of stress.  Very reasonable too.

Simi Hills Golf Course, Simi Valley (map)

Difficulty 7 | Likeability 6

Fun, fair and nice. Not too easy, not too hard. If you have a group of both high and low handicappers, this is your course. The high handicappers won’t want to quit after 9 holes and the low handicappers won’t fall asleep either.

Los Robles Greens, Thousand Oaks (map)

Difficulty 6 | Likeability 7

Nice course with a good layout. It’s not super long so you probably won’t need your driver on every hole, but the layout is fairly open so you don’t have to be deadly accurate either. Good course if you have all levels of golfers in your group. If freeway noise bothers you, you’ll hate the front 9.

Tierra Rejada, Moorpark (map)

Difficulty 8 | Likeability 7.5

This is like two separate courses in one. The front 9 may make you want to quit golf, but the back 9 will make you love the game again. The front 9 is up through the hills with some beautiful views of Moorpark, and the back 9 is down in the flat area. Not a great course for beginners, but definitely a good test for experienced golfers.

Sterling Hills, Camarillo (map)

Difficulty 7 | Likeability 8.5

One of my personal favorites.  Challenging but fair. The type of course where you don’t have to be deadly accurate to shoot a good score, but still challenging enough that you’ll use every club in your bag.

Rustic Canyon, Moorpark (map)

Difficulty 7.5 | Likeability 9

Another one of my favs. This is our only links style course.  If you don’t know what that means, it means long, open fairways and HUGE greens. The course was ranked #4 in Golf Weekly for “best courses you can play”. It’s also one of the most reasonable courses around. Put this one on your list!

Moorpark Country Club, Moorpark (map)

Difficultly 8.5 | Likeability 10

Ok, this one is my favorite. One of the most beautiful courses around (public or private).  27 holes of beautiful views and fun golf! The starter will tell you which two sets of 9 you are playing, but it doesn’t really matter.  All three are fun.  It’s a bit of a shot makers course with lots of environmental hazards so bring extra balls.
